3 Vintage Original Oversized Portraits - Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Marion Davies, One Signed. Collection of 3 vintage original oversized double-weight portraits. First, Douglas Fairbanks Sr., legendary silent film star seen here in a handsome portrait measuring 13½" x 10½". Photo is printed in warm sepia and blind embossed on front left corner as well as stamped on verso with the name of the photographer, Melbourne Spurr, Hollywood and is in excellent condition. The second, a youthful image of Marion Davies 13½" x 10½" inscribed and signed in blue fountain pen, with photographer James Manatt blind embossed in lower right corner. The other, a beautiful portrait of Marion Davies in the early 1950's at the height of her children's charity work for which she was enormously generous. Measuring 14" x 11" and photographed by the great John Engstead, blind embossed in lower right corner. Again both in excellent conditon.

5 Fine Oversized Portraits Including 2 by Clarence Sinclair Bull, Also Myrna Loy, Virginia Bruce and Brenda Marshall. Diverse collection of oversized, double-weight, vintage original portrait photos, with two inscribed and signed. First a group portrait by acclaimed celebrity photographer, Clarence Sinclair Bull, regarded as one of the greats from the Golden Age of Hollywood. For MGM he shot this cast photo of Twice Blessed starring Gail Patrick, Preston Foster, Marshall Thompson and twins, Lee and Lyn Wilde, who didn't have much a career but here, perfect in this Parent Trap like film which boast three outstanding jitterbug numbers. Stamped on verso Clarence Sinclair Bull, MGM with information regarding the film. Photo measures, 10" x 13" and is untrimmed. The second Bull portrait is of Van Johnson, also for MGM heavily promoting him after Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo declaring "Johnson's rocket-like rise to the top is unsurpassed in Hollywood annals" Okay a bit heavy on the spin, but an exceptional portrait, also 10" x 13" stamped on verso Clarence Sinclair Bull, MGM and the publicity hype typed just below. Next a signed portrait (JSA graded) of Myrna Loy 10" x 12½", likely from the 1950's and still very much the glamorous talent The fourth photo is a lovely signed image of Virginia Bruce, quite the leading lady with her unique pale eyes and later regarded for her political activism. The fifth and final piece is a lovely portrait by Landry for Life Magazine of Brenda Marshall known best as the co-star with Errol Flynn in The Sea Hawk, a rousing swashbuckler considered one of his finest. Portrait measures 10½" x 13" and is a striking near regal portrait of the star. All photos in overall excellent condition with minor evidence of handling.

5 Oversized Portraits, Men - Robert Redford, Robert Taylor, Dick Powell, Cesar Romero, Gilbert Roland. 5 oversized, 11" x 14" vintage original, double-weight, vintage original portraits of Hollywood actors. Robert Redford, looking dapper, likely from the mid-1960's with significant film hits already under his belt at the time, Gilbert Roland, featured in over 105 films spanning 60 years particularly great at playing dashing or the villain, a fantastic portrait of Robery Taylor looking ever bit the star, known also for having the longest single studio contract in history, in this case with MGM who did allow him some great roles including Camille and QuoVadis? but earning the lowest star salary manipulated by Louis B. Mayer, Dick Powell, likely photographed around the late 1930's early 1940's, a significant star of radio, film and television who truly made his mark in Warner Brothers backstage musicals, and then transitioned very well into hard-boiled private eye dramas and later to directing, and finally Cesar Romero, who boasted a 65 year career in film, noted for his dashing looks in 30's films, then his Cisco Kid series, but most famously to contemporary audiences for his portrayal of "The Joker" on the 1960's Batman television series and film. All of the portraits in overall excellent condition displaying only the slightest evidence of handling and soft corners.

Ann Sheridan, Oversized Portrait by Hurrell. Famous image of Ann Sheridan, known in the day as "The Oomph Girl," by acclaimed portrait photographer, George Hurrell. Hurrell with his beautifully composed, astonishingly lit celebrity photographs, all but ushered in the concept of Hollywood Glamour. Portrait is a vintage original, double weight photograph and measures 11" x 14" with Sheridan looking radiant. Photograph has a dog ear in upper left corner partially torn and held in check with tape on verso, touched up in black ink and soft corner tips Easily restored but does not detract appreciably. Photo is not stamped on verso by Hurrell but well known as his composition.

Clark Gable and Janet Gaynor - 2 Oversized Portraits by Acclaimed Photographer, Clarence Sinclair Bull. Two beautiful vintage original 10" x 13" double-weight portrait stills for MGM by acclaimed celebrity photographer, Clarence Sinclair Bull, of Golden Age of Hollywood Legends, Clark Gable and Janet Gaynor. The Clark Gable in his WWII uniform is slugged on verso "Captain Clark Gable of the US Army Air Corps. The newest portrait of the former Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer star now completing editing of combat films shot on a series of bombing raids over Europe". The second portrait is from 1936, a glamorous image of Janet Gaynor, the first actress to win an Academy Award for acting at the first ceremony held in 1929 being recognized for three films, 7th Heaven, Street Angel and the undisputed masterpiece that is Sunrise. Photo is slugged on verso "Janet Gaynor is to be starred international the title role of 'Small Town Girl', from Ben Ames William's best selling novel….Robert Taylor appears opposite Miss Gaynor". The Gaynor portrait has a lower white border corner tip missing a crease just inside same corner that scarcely impacts the quality of the image. The Gable is extremely clean with only a tiny emulsion drop on left side of visor and one soft corner tip. Both have stamped "Kindly Credit Photo by Clarence Sinclair Bull, MGM" on verso and both wonderful portraits by a photographer at the top of his game.

Offered here is a rare and beautiful three color carbro portrait, actual image 10" x 13" overall photo 13½" x 16¾" laid to matte from the mid-1930's, with photographer's label on verso. Doolittle's remarkable color work has been featured in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions and recognized as one of the fore runners of color photography in the fields of commercial portraiture, advertising and journalism. Image itself in excellent condition, a small water stain can be seen in bottom right white corner border tip that in no way significantly impacts photo.

Offered here is a rare and beautiful three color carbro portrait, actual image 10" x 13" overall photo 13½" x 16¾" laid to matte from 1938 with photographer's label on verso. Doolittle's remarkable color work has been featured in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions and recognized as one of the fore runners of color photography in the fields of commercial portraiture, advertising and journalism. This clearly evident in the complete original edition of "Photoplay" from June, 1938, the cover for which this photo was used. Both photo and magazine in excellent condition. In fact the Photoplay is an amazing snapshot of Hollywood at the time 100 pages of photos, stories and hilarious ads.

Greta Garbo - 3 Beautiful Oversized MGM Studio Portraits. Greta Garbo, one of the legendary faces of the Golden Age of Hollywood is immortalized here in three stunning, oversized portraits. The first, a 9" x 12" image by MGM studio photographer, William Grimes (credit stamp MGM and WM Grimes on verso) a single weight vintage original photo and obviously an on set candid of her adjusting a boom microphone above her head. The other two are glorious vintage double-weight glossy re-strikes from the original negatives, 14" x 11", one from her classic melodrama, Camille, the other a stunning posed portrait. All three are in overall excellent condition with only minor evidence of handling and Garbo, never more beautiful.

Hedda Hopper Oversized Portrait by George Hurrell Plus Candid With Bob Hope. Hedda Hopper while well known in Hollywood History as a national gossip columnist, she did actually have her start in film during the 1930's. First is a typically glamourous portrait by acclaimed celebrity photographer, George Hurrell, during her film career in the 1930's. Photo measures 10" x 13", and printed in warm sepia tones. The other photo is taken much later, Christmas 1956 to be exact, and measures 11" x 14". While her conspiring with Joe McCarthy spreading gossip and innuendo was a failure of character in her later years, her impact along with Louella Parsons cannot be denied as cogs in the Hollywood publicity machine achieving legendary status when newspapers and radio were king. Hurrell photo quite fine, the candid photo show evidence of wear and two minor creases.

Doolittle's remarkable color work has been featured in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions and recognized as one of the fore runners of color photography in the fields of commercial portraiture, advertising and journalism. What needs to be pointed out in this portrait is the astonishing ontrast in lighting and the remarkable deep reds. An absolutely exceptional vintage color piece.

Maurice Chevalier and Richard Arlen - Pair of Magnificent Portraits by Clarence Sinclair Bull and A. L. Schaffer. Two oversized, double-weight, vintage original and magnificent portraits from the 1930's. First a 10" x 13" portrait of one of the biggest stars of 1930's Pre-Code Hollywood, Maurice Chevalier who could croon and seduce like no other generating enormous popularity and polite, sophisticated scandal. Looking all kinds of dapper in a publicity announcement still for The Merry Widow around 1934 with MGM information slug on verso and stamped to credit Clarence Sinclair Bull. The other an 11" x 14" Paramount Pictures publicity still for Richard Arlen by celebrity studio photographer A. L. Schaffer (credit stamped on verso) with a partial studio publicity slug seemingly ten years after the 1927 first Best Picture Oscar winner Wings which co-starred Arlen, based on the remaining legible text. Both photos show minor evidence of wear but are otherwise very impressive portraits.

Pair of Oversized, Behind The Scenes Photos - Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), A Farewell To Arms (1957). Two Hollywood epics are captured here in these rare oversized production photos. First a vintage original, double-weight 10" x 13" publicity shot of the Bounty, at anchor in Mataivai Bay, for the MGM film by studio photographer William Grimes for the 1935 epic, Mutiny on the Bounty which starred Clark Gable and Charles Laughton which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. The second is a fantastic 11" x 13" portrait of David O' Selznick and screenwriter, Ben Hecht, on the set of A Farewell To Arms from 1957. Both in fine condition with minor rippling and in the Bounty a small contusion at base of palm tree that barely registers.

What a collection of legends including Fatty Arbuckle, Rudolph Valentino, Pola Negri, Ronald Coleman, Howard Hughes, Agnes Ayers, Blanche Sweet, Mae Murray, Virginia Valle, and scores more all dressed swell, warmly and looking like the stars they truly were identified by each row.
